Package: gnome-pilot
Version: 2.0.12-1.3
Severity: important
When starting up gpilotd with the output not being actively displayed,
syncs over a USB connection fail. Starting up gpilotd as:
gpilotd 2>/dev/null
results in syncs not working.
If I start it inside of 'screen', the sync works fine UNLESS I detach
from the screen. After detaching from the screen session, syncs fail
again. Very odd problem, but I have been able to reproduce it many
times. Let me know if I can be of any more help.

I ended up finding the source of this problem a while ago but just never
closed the bug (and no one else has bothered to do much with it). The
problem was actually on my end. The entry for the Tungsten T5 was
missing from one of the XML control files.
Since I also had my m505 connected, however, the extra delay caused by
displaying output to the console gave the system time to pick up both
devices and accept the connection from the m505. Most of the time,
however, the T5 would get the notification first, and end up connecting
in place of the m505 (which I didn't realize because it was doing what I
wanted it to do, even if it was "wrong").
Either way, the bug can safely be closed. Though this information may
come in handy if/when a new Palm model is released that hasn't been
added to the appropriate control file. (I don't remember the exact
filename as this was almost a year ago, but I know it was
under /usr/share and that it was an xml file.)
