I don't know how to describe this beyond the fact that I was attempting
to draw a second ellipse in gpaint and the xserver locked up solid.

I couldn't get a meaningful backtrace from the xserver, but by remotely
logging in to the system with the locked up xserver I could use gdb to
attach to the gpaint process and obtained the following backtrace:
