Package: debhelper
Version: 13.11.4
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: Helmut Grohne <[email protected]>
Owner: Helmut Grohne <[email protected]>

I tried adding "Build-Depends: dh-sequence-movetousr" to parted. The
build was apparently successful, but lintian warned me:

  W: libparted-fs-resize0: lacks-unversioned-link-to-shared-library example:
usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libparted-fs-resize.so
[usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libparted-fs-resize.so.0.0.5]
  W: libparted2: lacks-unversioned-link-to-shared-library example:
usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libparted.so
[usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libparted.so.2.0.5]

This is because libparted-dev has a
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libparted.so ->
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libparted.so.2 symlink (and similar for
libparted-fs-resize.so), but libparted2 now ships
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libparted.so.2 instead.

Technically this is fine since the /lib -> /usr/lib symlink is now
mandatory, but lintian apparently doesn't know that, and I think it's
rather confusing. We ought to either change lintian to not warn about
this, or change dh_movetousr to fix up the symlinks; either way,
developers shouldn't see a warning here.

Talking to Helmut at the mini-Debconf in Cambridge, we went back and
forth a bit but his gut feeling appeared to be that it would make sense
to at least experiment with having dh_movetousr update symlink targets,
so I'm filing this bug as a reminder.

Thanks,
