--- Begin Message ---Package: makedev Version: 2.3.1-58 Severity: wishlist -- System Information Debian Release: 2.2 Kernel Version: Linux nbd.it.uc3m.es 2.6.0-test2-SMP #2 SMP Tue Jul 29 21:21:57 CEST 2003 i686 unknown Versions of the packages makedev depends on: ii base-passwd 3.1.10 Debian Base System Password/Group Files For the enbd package (see debian unstable, etc.) I need the following pattern of device nodes on block major 43, with minors as indicated: nda 0 nda1 1 nda2 2 ... nda15 15 ndb 16 ndb1 17 ndb2 18 ... ndb15 31 ndc 32 ... I guess you can stop at ndd15 for normal use. But all 256 minors are potentially used, and there are people who use them. The naming scheme is FOO<letter>[numbers] and is needed by the client software. I'm not strict about FOO = nd, but I've never tried anything else. Under devfs, this transforms to names like nd/a/disc nd/a/1 nd/a/2 ... Implementing this scheme in makedev would allow me to use MAKEDEV at package installation for enbd, and hence get a bug off my back. Peter
