Package: xen-utils-3.0
Version: 3.0.2+hg9681-1
Severity: important
When trying to install xen-utils, I get the following message:
Unpacking xen-utils-3.0 (from .../xen-utils-3.0_3.0.2+hg9681-1_i386.deb) ...
Setting up xen-utils-3.0 (3.0.2+hg9681-1) ...
Starting XEN: invoke-rc.d: initscript xend, action "start" failed.
dpkg: error processing xen-utils-3.0 (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

It seems the xen-utils postinstall script tries to run "xend" which fails
as xen is not yet installed.
A workaround might be to install the xen-hypervisor package first, without
installing xen-utils, booting into xen, and only after the reboot from
then xen-kernel try to install the xen-utils package.
I'll try that and report here on success.
It will still by a strange workaround, and a strange "after reboot dependency"
of
xen-utils against the xen-hypervisor package.
Exactly, the depending on xen-hypervisor is superflous - if yor try to install
xen-utils without a running xen hypervisor, it will fail anyway, becaus the
dependency is only
solved after reboot.

So, what happened ?
I have tried it again, with a fresh etch install from the d-i beta
netboot image (the same as before), now the install of all xen
packages (which are newer version now) succeeded without a problem.
Unfortunately at this time, no xen kernel is in testing, but that's
another bug...
