Package: backuppc
Version: 4.4.0-5ubuntu2
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

I upgraded from Ubuntu 20 to Ubuntu 22, which took backupppc from
version 3.3 to version 4.4.

There has been code in the debian package patches for many years which
causes the backuppc web UI to display two graphs of pool usage on
disk, for 4 and 52 week timespans

As of version 4, backuppc now provides its own pool usage graphs, also
for 4 and 52 week timespans.

If the "log/pool.rrd" file (which contains the data for producing the
Debian graphs) is present after an upgrade from backuppc v3 to v4,
then the user will be presented with an extra pair of pool usage
graphs -- those create by upstream code, and those created by Debian
code. At first, the extra graphs are simply redundant.

Although the Debian patches create graphs from the pool.rrd file,
apparently there is no code left in the latest Debian package for v4
to keep pool.rrd current. So the Debian-created graphs become stale
over time, leaving the user confused by two pairs of mismatched graph
data in the UI.

Workaround: Simply removing log/pool.rrd causes the Debian graphs to
disappear.

Fix: The patches that maintain the graph-creation code in the Debian
backuppc should be modified to stop creating the graphs. Those
patches are 01-debian.patch and 06-fix-rrd-graph-permissions.patch.
