gedit 47 has disabled all translations because key UI libraries are
not hosted on https://gitlab.gnome.org/ . This is particularly
frustrating because it is the gedit maintainer's decision to move the
libraries to https://github.com/gedit-technology

This was fixed in later gedit versions. I am waiting for libgedit-gfls
to be accepted from Debian NEW to upgrade gedit to a new version. We
never pushed a version of gedit with this issue to Debian.
