While building rust-curve25519-dalek I noticed this in the build log:

Use of uninitialized value in join or string at
/usr/share/perl5/Debian/Debhelper/Buildsystem/rust.pm line 309.
/usr/share/dh-rust/bin/cargo clean
which seems like a bug in dh-rust.
BTW: This package (rust-curve25519-dalek) FTBFS approximately 60% of
the time for me (circular depends maybe?), but I'm not reporting it yet
just in case it has something to do with this uninitialized value in dh-rust.
(Note: Please reassign to src:rust-curve25519-dalek if it's not really a bug
in dh-rust).
