Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
no changes in the gnome settings option. Always on.
        Maybe last updates.
        Gnome + nvidia.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
On/off the option in gnome settings do not solve the issue.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
Screen brigthness do not adjust automatically.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Screen brigthness adjust automatically as usual.

tested and solved today.

gnome-settings-daemon in stable hasn't changed, so presumably this was solved by a change in some other component, perhaps the kernel or the Nvidia proprietary graphics driver (we'll probably never know which). Closing the bug report.
