Package: mc
Version: 1:4.6.0-4.6.1-pre1-1
Severity: normal

When I hit <Enter> on a tarball the name of which contains "mail", I get
an error message that says

Decompressing tfmail.tar.gz...
tfmail.tar.gz is not a mailbox.

I believe the error is contained in the routine described in the
"bindings" file:

# type (file matches this if `file %f` matches regular expression desc
# (the filename: part from `file %f` is removed))

If you run "file" on "tfmail.tar.gz", what you're going to get is

tfmail.tar.gz: gzip compressed data, was "tfmail.tar", from Unix, max
compression

Removing the original filename still leaves you with "tfmail.tar", which
matches "mail", so the extension interpretation system treats it as a
mailbox.
