Package: gnome-volume-manager
Version: 1.4.0-4
Severity: normal

I recently burned a copy of the Fedore Core 5 DVD, and was surprised to
find that gnome-volume-manager didn't automatically mount it like it
does for other discs I insert. The icon in the GNOME Disk Mounter
applet didn't even change to indicate there was a disc in the drive.
(Combined with the fact that "cdir" reports "no_disc" when the disc in
the drive is a DVD, I thought it was a bad burn and burned another copy,
which had the same problem.)

It turns out that the FC5 DVD's volume label is "FC/5 i386" -- it
contains a frontslash character. I suspect what happened is that g-v-m
tried to create the mountpoint directory "/media/FC/5 i386", failed
because "/media/FC" didn't already exist, and gave up on the whole
process.

If I mount the disc manually it works fine. If I create a directory
called "/media/FC" it still doesn't auto-mount, though. Its HAL UDI is
"/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_label_FC/5_i386", so maybe that's
causing problems too.
