By default, font rendering can be ugly or even incorrect (e.g. when
underline is used) on pages with a non-western language (Japanese,
Korean...) or encoding, even when this concerns ASCII characters
(sometimes such pages are incorrect, but not always, in particular
when mixed languages are used and/or when non-western text, like
people's names, is written with western characters). In any case,
Iceweasel should be able to render such text correctly.
One solution can be smarter font selection; this is bug 351259.
Another solution is to have the needed fonts installed (the subject
of this bug report). So, Iceweasel should recommend a complete
Unicode font.
Note: I had ttf-dejavu already installed, but this is not sufficient
(or there is a bug in fontconfig, as it was not selected).

Version: 115.12.0esr-1+rm
src:iceweasel has been superseded by src:firefox-esr in version
45.0esr-1 in March 2016. Transitional packages to ease upgrades were
provided in the wheezy, jessie, stretch and buster releases. The
transitional packages have been removed finally before the bullseye
release in August 2021.
After regular security support for buster ended in August 2022 and LTS
support ended in June 2024, I'm closing the remaining bug reports now.
