Dear Maintainer,
For more context on the issue, please see Bug #1119760 [1], which was
filed against the plplot package. Plplot started to FTBFS once swig 4.4.0
was uploaded to unstable. I traced the bug and found that the problem
originates from NumPy. I reported the issue upstream [2].
In the meantime, I “fixed” the bug in plplot with a hacky patch [3]. I
would prefer to have the issue fixed in python3-numpy-dev rather than
using this workaround.
To summarize, the problem occurs because NumPy's code generator,
generate_numpy_api.py, produces code incompatible with SWIG 4.4 (it
worked with version 4.3).
I am tagging this bug report "patch" because there is a proposal for a
patch in the GitHub issue. Do not hesitate to ask me to produce a debdiff
if necessary.
