Package: gnome-shell
Version: 3.30.1-2
Steps to reproduce:
1) Upgrade from Debian stretch (fully patched) to Debian testing (buster).
Exact steps taken may be seen as documented in (
https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-upgrade-debian-9-stretch-to-debian-10-buster)
2) shutdown system (/sbin/shutdown now)
3) start system and login
4) open terminal and type start
5) watch gnome-shell take 42-105% utilization continuously
6) watch mouse cursor be VERY laggy if usable
7) Open new terminal try and type - watch some lag in keystroke display
with occasional multiple characters being displayed on single keystroke.
The system/desktop in general is so laggy that it is unusable. Have
performed fresh installs of Debian 9 and upgraded using same steps a couple
of times in order to try and further isolate and make as vanilla as
possible.
suggested fix: unknown
workaround: boot into buster init 3 and then startx.
booting straight into gui (init 5) is where the issue is noted.
hardware details:
Dell T130 - will provide detailed specs if needed
StarTech.com KVM providing USB only switching for keyboard/mouse for this
use(does not seem to impact) (model SV231DPDDUA)
Keyboard: Microsoft Comfort Curve 2000
Mouse: Logitech MouseMan Wheel
