Package: libcupt-perl
Version: 1.5.13

It seems that the only locking supported by cupt is
via the non-portable flock(). In contrast, APT and
dpkg use POSIX locking via fcntl() for locking
files, and the both are not compatible to each
other (fcntl() locking is only compatible to
fcntl() locking, not to flock(); and not even
to lockf()).

It also seems to me that cupt does not acquire
a lock for dpkg (/var/lib/dpkg/lock), as APT
does. This is needed to ensure that no other
package manager writes to the dpkg status file
(or removes/installs packages) while cupt is
running.

Regards,
Julian (who wrote locking code for APT2 today)
