Package: yank
Severity: wishlist
Hi, I am the pilot-link Debian package maintainer.
I contact you because your package yank has a dependency on libpisock8
(provided by the Debian source package pilot-link).
As of pilot-link version 0.11.8-2 (August 2003) the creation of
/dev/pilot needed by libpisock8 (file used by default) is no more done
by a debconf question in libpisock8 but by a debconf question in the
applications using libpisock8 (See bug #205059 for a discution on this
modification).
The debconf admin choice is stored in shared/pilot/port. The
question/answer is shared among all the packages using it. The system
admin will only have to answer the question _once_ and /dev/pilot will
be configured for _all_ the packages sharing the shared/pilot/port
debconf question.
For example the debconf question is already present in jpilot and
pilot-link.
It may be a good idea to also have the debconf question in your package
yank. If a user only installs yank (without pilot-link or another package
with the debconf question) he will not be asked to chose what /dev/pilot
is sim-linked to. So yank may not work correctly without manual
intervention.
To add the needed debconf question in your package:
- get the pilot-link package sources
- move the file pilot-link-0.11.8/debian/pilot-link.templates in
yank/debian/yank.templates (or equivalent)
- copy the directory pilot-link-0.11.8/debian/po to yank/debian/ (to get
the translations)
- copy pilot-link-0.11.8/debian/pilot-link.postinst in
yank/debian/yank.postinst (or update your .postinst script if you
already have one)
- copy pilot-link-0.11.8/debian/pilot-link.config in
yank/debian/yank.config (or update your .config script if you already
have one)
- add a call to dh_installdebconf in your debian/rules file if you don't
have one yet.
- update yank/debian/po/POTFILES.in to replace pilot-link.templates by
yank.templates
- call 'debconf-updatepo' to update the debian/po/* files
- rebuild your package
Contact me if you have any questions/remarks.
Regards,
