Version: 1.5.3-7

Dear pam maintainer,

d/libpam-modules.preinst contains code related to disabling screensavers that will be executed only when upgrading from a version older than 1.4.0-5. The version of pam in oldstable (Debian 11 bullseye) is 1.4.0-9+deb11u1. This means that that code has not been run in Debian 12 bookworm and will not run in Debian 13 and later.

You can find a MR to remove the outdated code as well as unused debconf variables at

https://salsa.debian.org/vorlon/pam/-/merge_requests/19

Regards,

   * I have merged in the fix to pam_include on /usr/lib/pam.d. However as
discussed, it was never my intent to support /usr/lib/pam.d on
Debian. This is merged as an emergency and potentially temporary work
around for #1140029. I am leaving that bug open to block this version
of pam from testing until I figure out what the long-term solution
is. It likely involves logging an error whenever /usr/lib/pam.d is
     used.
