Package: syslinux
Version: 2.04-1
Severity: important
I just tested a custom netinst floppy build of debian-installer again,
and I had to find out that syslinux no longer boots
on my test machine. The floppy used is a 1.44MB floppy,
generated with the
# make image
target of debian-installer/build.
The machine is a very old Pentium 90 with one IDE disk
and a floppy drive.
The last thing I see on the screen is:
SYSLINUX 2.04 2003-04-16
and there it hangs, displaying no "boot: " prompt, or
anything else. Hitting RET or any other key has no
effect.
Prior versions of syslinux worked fine on this machine.
I just verified this by downgrading to syslinux 2.00-2 and
rebuilding the floppy image. 2.00 appears to boot
fine on this machine:
SYSLINUX 2.00 2002-10-25 Copyright (C) 1994-2002 H. Peter Anvin
(note that the copyright notice does not get displayed when attempting
to boot with 2.04)
Please let me know if I can provide you with any
additional information.
Following is the syslinux.cfg which is on the dispk:
# Load up initrd on boot.
default linux
append vga=normal initrd=initrd.gz ramdisk_size=8192 root=/dev/rd/0
init=/linuxrc devfs=mount,dall rw
prompt 1
timeout 50

Hi,
this bug is quite old, not reproducible, and there is important
information lacking (such as information about the used hardware).
It is also likely that, if there was a bug, it is solved over the years
with newer upstream versions, hence I'm closing the bug.
If you still experience the bug, feel free to reopen it and provide more
information.
Regards,
Daniel
