Package: mailman
Version: 2.0.11-1woody5
Description:
Whole mailman processing freezes as soon as one of the mailing list
recipient's MX server returns an automatic message about undelivered
message - but this automatic message contains scary unescaped unencoded
non-ASCII characters, as seen in part of the mail header below (the
<HEX> encoding was done by 'less' so in reality there are truly binary
characters in the From and Subject lines!):
========================================
From: <BC><BC><C0><CC><C5><AC><B7><B4>@ns.zln.cz ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
Subject: [<B9><DD><BC><DB><B8><DE><C0><CF>] : ORIGINAL SUBJECT
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: multipart/mixed;
X-Mail-Type: A
boundary="585021DCB8.1073059745/smtp.sayclub.com"
Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
X-Amavis-Alert: BAD HEADER Non-encoded 8-bit data (char BC hex) in
message header 'From'
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ^
This is a MIME-encapsulated message.
========================================
I suspect mailman's unable to decode the subject due to the binary chars
and ends in a neverending loop or something like that.
Please note that I can provide the exact message that makes the mailman
stuck but as it contains some sensitive information I am not going to
append it to this bug report. Let me know if you need more info.
Please note that this is _very_ annoying and basically makes the mailing
list unusable as someone has to watch the queue and manually inspect all
mails when it gets stuck and remove the bad one. I wish this was fixed
ASAP, if possible. Thanks.
Some maybe unrelated packages' versions:
kernel 2.2.20, libc6 2.2.5-11.5, python 2.1.3-3.2, amavisd-new
20030616p5-3
Thanks.
