Package: cyrus-sasl2
Version: 2.1.19-1.5

When upgrading postfix from woody to sarge it switched from sasl1 to sasl2 and
authtication quit working. After some digging I found

/usr/share/doc/libsasl2/upgrading.html

I followed the instructions to switch (convert the db, change postfix to
auxprop) but I still had problems since the sasl was advertising the NTLM
method first (before LOGIN PLAIN etc.) and if the client tried it failed. Once
I restricted mech_list to the things I wanted (and not NTML) then it worked.
Maybe this is because the converter is only able to convert the pre-existing
sasl1 auth types and doesn't have the plaintext passwd to be able to deal with
NTML?

This took me an hour or so to figure out and meant downtime for my users.

I would like to see the either the libsasl2(or sasl2 using packages like
postfix) have a NEWS.Debian file that explains that some services will need
adjusting and points to the above upgrade guide. I'm not sure if the NTLM
thing is a bug or just something that needs to be added to the upgrade guide.

Thanks,
