This is a MIME-formatted message. If you see this text it means that your
E-mail software does not support MIME-formatted messages.
You are right this is strange.
So probably what happens is that I got confused with all the different
tests I have made and I picked up the wrong .config. The one that
works was probably the one where I disabled all ACPI support.

So I have done again the compilations, to be sure, and here is what
get:

* kernel-source 2.4.27-6 + 132 patch + config from your kernel-headers 2.4.27-8 :

it does not work: pushing power button switches off LCD but freezes computer; same effect for battery key fn-F2.
I am attaching the content of dmesg as file dmesg.20050118

* your kernel-image from http://debian.vergenet.net/testing/ kernel-image-2.4.27-2-686_2.4.27-8_i386.deb :

it does the same thing.
I am attaching the content of dmesg as file dmesg.2.4.27-8

* kernel-source 2.4.27-6 + 132 patch + config from your kernel-headers 2.4.27-8 MODIFIED for
disabling local APIC:

it works !
I am attaching the content of dmesg as file dmesg.20050118.2

*for reference, the kernel-image from backports
kernel-image-2.4.27-1-686_2.4.27-1.backports.org.1_i386.deb :

works well; I am attaching the content of dmesg as file dmesg.backport

On the latter the DELL is recognized and local APIC is disabled. Maybe this behaviour should be preserved ?

Best regards
San
