Please tell me a way to reproduce this. at best starting with a user that has _no_ .mozilla-thunderbird directory and there is _no_ mozilla-thunderbird on the box. (e.g. apt-get remove --purge mozilla-thunderbird before starting)
I just tried apt-get install mozilla-thunderbird-enigmail ...
started it with a user that has no ~/.mozilla-thunderbird directory.
created my mail account and _could_ used enigmail successfully.
So what's different on your side?
