As I recall, the last I saw of this bug, Jérôme and Goswin were going back and forth trying to determine a correct patch, and I didn't think they had come up with a conclusive answer, but perhaps they did (I may well have misunderstood). Jérôme: so was one of those patches good enough that I should go ahead and apply it? (We can test on one of the ia64 machines if we need to.)
