Package: chkrootkit Version: 0.44-2 Followup-For: Bug #262586
As answer to your mail from 8 December, this is still occurring. (I'm not the original poster.) Minor annoyance. mauritsvanrees:~# chkrootkit sshd ROOTDIR is `/' Checking `sshd'... /usr/bin/strings: Warning: '/' is not an ordinary file not infected mauritsvanrees:~# /etc/init.d/ssh start OpenBSD Secure Shell server not in use (/etc/ssh/sshd_not_to_be_run) mauritsvanrees:~# mv /etc/ssh/sshd_not_to_be_run /etc/ssh/sshd_not_to_be mauritsvanrees:~# /etc/init.d/ssh start Starting OpenBSD Secure Shell server: sshd. mauritsvanrees:~# chkrootkit sshd ROOTDIR is `/' Checking `sshd'... not infected I usually don't run chkrootkit myself, but I get a mail from tigercron a few times a day with just one line: ------ Subject: Cron <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> test -x /usr/sbin/tigercron && /usr/sbin/tigercron -q /usr/bin/strings: Warning: '/' is not an ordinary file ------ When I remove the '-q' option from tigercron I just get a few introductory lines extra and no info on what causes this warning. But it seems likely that this is caused by chkrootkit. I may start really using sshd shortly so then the problem should go away. ;) BTW, my ssh version is: 3.8.1p1-8.sarge.4 -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.4.27-2-k7 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages chkrootkit depends on: ii binutils 2.15-5 The GNU assembler, linker and bina ii debconf 1.4.30.11 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-20 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii net-tools 1.60-10 The NET-3 networking toolkit -- debconf information: * chkrootkit/run_daily: true * chkrootkit/run_daily_opts: -q -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
