Thinking about it again, it is probably better to just make the linux
terminfo entry use linux2.2 by default. This should keep everyone
relatively happy, Vincent can then set TERM to linux3.0 if he so
desires.

Right, I have just updated the terminfo entries but no other files. The
20110910 change to gen_edit.sh is irrelevant for us anyway, since Debian
has dropped support for Linux kernels older than 2.6 a few years ago.

I'll pick up the st-256color fix later, but for now I have to drop
st-256color from ncurses-term anyway to solve #665877.
