Since we need to know the version of libssl in order to perform the dynamic link, there is no reason to avoid putting it into a dependency line. I suppose a better solution would be to make the name of libssl that the executable expects to load be a runtime parameter. Then, the only other thing to do is fix the dependencies so that the libssl-dev version be a Recommended dependency. I appreciate the discussion.
