Per you request I downloaded qemu-kvm_1.0+dfsg-8_amd64.deb from snapshot.debian.org and lo and behold: 19.1 gbit/s!
In other words there is a massive network efficiency regression between -8 and -9. Even though there are no network related changes between the versions I noticed that I had to change machine=pc-15 to pc-14 in my .xml-files for -8 to start the machines. Is there some significant internal changes in kvm going on between 8 and 9 perhaps (enough to increase the pc-number)? Thank you for your help!
