This is roughly my idea, though I was thuinking about using underscores or
colons. Does your suggestion for using periods come from the way "numeric"
lock names are created or is there another reason?

Anyway I still need to check what FHS et al suggest and what other
implementations do...

BTW -- you'd probably could maintain this package better than I do. Maybe
you'd like to co-maintain or adopt it?
