Package: linux-2.6 Version: 3.2.15-1 Severity: normal Hi.
I'm using Debian Wheezy/Testing, kernel 3.2.15-1 on a HP PowerBook 4515s laptop. I noticed that /var/log/syslog is getting spammed with messages from laptop-mode, like in the attached syslog-laptop-mode_spam.log.gz file. Also, at the same time, "upower --monitor" shows the messages from upower-monitor.log.gz. In Windows XP I don't see any issue with the battery and also running HP Battery Check [1] I got the result that the battery is functioning correctly, but is week (admittedly it is more than a year old, but still holds a charge for 30 mins). 1: http://h20239.www2.hp.com/techcenter/battery/battery_ts.htm So it looks like a kernel issue. I started checking the udev events with 'udevadm monitor --property' and got the messages from the udevadm_monitor.log.gz file. This happens only when the battery and the power cable are connected. When running with the battery removed or without the power cable connected (running only on battery) this is not happening. Here are some more discussions about this: - a Debian Bug reported [2] - and also a thread on the Upower mailinglist [3] 2: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=638970 3: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/devkit-devel/2012-February/001225.html I hope this gets solved rather soon. With top, I see the upowerd daemon using quite a lot of CPU from time to time. Thanks. -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 3.2.0-2-686-pae (Debian 3.2.15-1) (debian-ker...@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 4.6.3 (Debian 4.6.3-3) ) #1 SMP Sun Apr 15 17:56:31 UTC 2012 ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.2.0-2-686-pae root=UUID=c82fd34e-9549-4229-b8d2-5448428acfeb ro quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor ** Tainted: PO (4097) * Proprietary module has been loaded. * Out-of-tree module has been loaded. ** Kernel log: [88062.148652] smpboot cpu 1: start_ip = 9b000 [88062.047450] Initializing CPU#1 [88062.047450] Calibrating delay loop (skipped) already calibrated this CPU [88062.160540] NMI watchdog enabled, takes one hw-pmu counter.
