Hi,

At first the lock file was still there, from before the upgrade. It was owned by postgres and had correct permissions, as far I could understand.

I didn't check permissions on /var and /var/run, but they were not changed before the purge/reinstall that served as workaround.

I checked the /etc/passwd and /etc/group, and it seemed ok.

I also tried to downgrade to the previous version but the problem remained.

If nobody else complains about this I propose to downgrade the bug severity to "strange unexplained event" and forget about it. :-)

Thanks

Fernando

Permissions on /var/run/postgresql are:
   drwxrwsr-x 2 postgres postgres 4096 May 11 10:21 /var/run/postgresql
The permissions are correct here. How did the files in the directory look? Were
/var and /var/run accessible? Was the passwd file correct for the postgresql
user?
