Package: php-benchmark
Version: 1.2.9-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

Your debian/copyright advertizes for the BSD license. However, when
looking at Benchmark-1.2.9/Benchmark/Iterate.php, I can read:

@license   http://www.php.net/license/3_0.txt The PHP License,
Version 3.0

Unfortunately, version 3.0 of the PHP license isn't suitable for
Debian, contrary to version 3.01.
Because on the same header of the files, the BSD license is mentionned
it's not clear at all what license the said files are shipped under.

Anyway, these are, I believe, the begining of what became phpunit,
which we are now packaging in Debian. If you wish to join us in this
packaging effort, we welcome you to do so, but in the mean time, please
request for the removal of php-benchmark from Debian. If you don't
believe me, go here:

http://pear.php.net/package/Benchmark/

see that it's written "This package is not maintained" in big. Then
click on the PHPUnit2 dependency at the bottom of the page, which
leads to a page where it's written in big:

This package is not maintained anymore and has been superseded. Package
has moved to channel pear.phpunit.de, package PHPUnit.

So I have all reasons to believe that this package (eg php-benchmark)
is rendered totally useless by PHPUnit 3.6.10, for which the upload
is pending (we are waiting for the FTP-Masters to accept the uploads
of the dependencies from pear.php.net). The only reason why I haven't
asked for its removal, is because PHPUnit 3.6.10 isn't uploaded yet,
so we still have a reverse dependency. But as soon as the new PHPUnit
is in SID, I don't see any reasons why we should keep php-benchmark.

If you believe, after the above, that php-benchmark should stay in
Debian, please explain why.

Cheers,

Thomas Goirand (zigo)
