Bummer, we're taking a rough upgrade path unfortunately as the Debian
package was several major versions behind upstream. If you forward me
some more details about what went wrong I'll do my best to see if we can
improve the migration process.

This most likely sounds like a problem with your configuration. I have
had IMAP authentication working with the package on my test wiki. Can
you provide your config file (suitably sanitised of course)? I'm
particularly interested in the settings you have in Part 3 of the file.
