The root/non-root difference suggests some permission issue, eg. on a sound device, that would not be properly handled at some level (could be eg. a sound device), and maybe the freedroid code is not robust to such a situation. In this case, it could possibly more easily occur with an OSS or direct ALSA setup, but at least does not seem to be a problem with pulseaudio+consolekit, which works with changing permissions on devices. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
