thank you Nicholas for replay,

here is information you requested...

with "ls -lad /tmp" I get:
drwxrwxrwt 14 root root 440 jun 4 21:39 /tmp

with " ls -l /etc/mysql/debian.cnf " I get:
-rw------- 1 root root 325 jun 4 20:15 /etc/mysql/debian.cnf

These look good. I was mainly looking for a few odd things that have cropped up on previous bug reports.

does the error has to do with read/write permissions?

using Mysql-admin (GUI) 5.0r14+openSUSE-2.1 (stable)

Other note:
When install and run MySQL server 5.5.23-2 (5.5.23+dfsg-2 amd64), MySQL
run's with MySQL 'client' 5.1.62 -> libmysqlclient16
and not with mysql-client-5.5 (5.5.23+dfsg-2 amd64) -> libmysqlclient18

Yes mysql-gui-tools would have been built against libmysqlclient16.
That in itself should not cause a problem. Changes to /etc/mysql/my.cnf and possibly /etc/mysql/debiab.cnf might however. You might be able to keep it going by backing out those changes. However there is not a lot of mileage in that approach. We really need to understand why mysql-workbench is not working for you.

Unfortunately i can't use Mysql-workbench, i cant run this as root (to
get full access to mysql server and databases) it has a problem with
genome keyring.

Okay I think you mean the MySQL 'root' user. Access to that for a database administrator is reasonable. However trying to access the MySQL root user, by running mysql-workbench as UNIX root sounds like a security mistake to me (if I understand correctly that that is what you are doing). This is starting sound like a mysql-workbench problem to me although I know nothing about that product. I'll just copy them for now. Another question. Which distribution do you have in your /etc/apt/sources.list file?

If you need more information, just ask...
Thank you
André
