Package: ssvnc
Subject: /usr/bin/ssvnc: Can No Longer Contact x11vnc via SSVNC using
SSH after Upgrade from Debian Testing
Package: ssvnc
Version: 1.0.29-2
File: /usr/bin/ssvnc
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,
This bug report is a corrected version of one submitted approximately
30 minutes ago which incorrectly stated the problem originating from
the Stable repo rather than the Testing repo. All other details are
identical. Please accept my apologies for this error and treat the
incorrect report as null and void.

   * What led up to the situation?
A recent apt-get update/upgrade. Prior to this SSVNC had been
successfully in use for a considerable period connecting to an x11vnc
server using SSH. The server is running on Debian 6 Stable.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
Prior to the update, and following the direct advice of the
developer the remote x11vnc server is successfully and usually started
as follows:
     /etc/gdm/Init/Default
append at the end of the file
     "x11vnc -localhost -rfbauth /root/.vnc/passwd -geometry 800x600
-bg -forever -o /var/log/x11vnc.log"

     /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default
append at the end of the file
     "x11vnc -sleepin 7 -gui conn,tray -env
X11VNC_FONT_REG_SMALL='Helvetica -12' &"

Prior to the update, the SSVNC viewer successfully connects to
the remote x11server as follows
SSVNC is started on the local machine using
/usr/share/applications/ssvnc.desktop
The ip-address of the server and display number is supplied 192.168.2.2:0
     The VNC password is supplied
The option to connect via SSH is selected
The SSVNC GUI is instructed to connect
The connection is established and the SSH password is supplied
The remote session starts and the remote desktop is displayed

After the apt-get update/upgrade on machine running SSVNC (x11vnc
machine not updated/upgraded
The ip-address of the server and display number is supplied 192.168.2.2:0
     The VNC password is supplied
The option to connect via SSH is selected
The SSVNC GUI is instructed to connect
The connection is established and the SSH password is supplied
The remote session fails to start and the following SSVNC report
is generated
"noraiseonbeep -encodings copyrect tight zrle zlib hextile

     SSVNC_LIM_ACCEPT_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/ssvnc/./lim_accept.so

     Testing ssh lim_accept preload:

     Running viewer:

     kill -TERM 5585
     + set +xv

Done. You Can X-out or Ctrl-C this Terminal if you like. Use
Ctrl-\ to pause.

     sleep 5"

   * What was the outcome of this action?
The SSVNC machine has been subsequently updated/upgraded on a
daily basis via apt-get for a period of approximately three weeks.
The problem remains unresolved.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
One of the subsequent updates/upgrades would fix the problem

   * Additional Information
The following test leads me to suspect an SSH related issue. If
SSVNC is used without SSH encryption a remote session can be
established.
x11vnc is started on the remote machine as follows
     /etc/gdm/Init/Default
append at the end of the file
     "x11vnc -rfbauth /root/.vnc/passwd -geometry 800x600 -bg -forever
-o /var/log/x11vnc.log"

     /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default
append at the end of the file
     "x11vnc -sleepin 7 -gui conn,tray -env
X11VNC_FONT_REG_SMALL='Helvetica -12' &"

SSVNC is started on the local machine using
/usr/share/applications/ssvnc.desktop
The ip-address of the server and display number is supplied 192.168.2.2:0
     The VNC password is supplied
The option to connect via "None" (no encryption)H is selected
The SSVNC GUI is instructed to connect
The remote session starts and the remote desktop is displayed
