I have now found a DVD+R disc that repeatedly locks up mount (email me if you want an ISO of it) - this is recreatable in both my brand new internal Liteon iHBS112 Blu-ray writer drive and in the old external Liteon DVDRW SOHW-1633S drive.
Very interestingly, when the relevant device is passed through to a Debian Testing Virtualbox VM, the disc mounts immediately courtesy of SpaceFM/udevil (same setup as the host OS)! Investigation shows the disc is a udf filesystem - so, testing the following on the host OS: sudo mount -t udf /dev/sr0 /media/test Causes the nasty lockup (no such issues when done manually in the VM).
