This is possible but gmx don't use separate passwords for recive and sending mails as far as I know. Do you set up the currect username? You will find your passwords in 'Edit - Preferences - Security - Passwords -> Saved passwords...'. And the used username in 'Edit -> Account Settings -> Outgoing SMTP Server'.
