tools that usually produce output with colours do not do so when run by debuild. Examples are the cmake build system (noticeably, colours work fine when using dpkg-buildpackage) and linitan with the --color option. As colours are very useful to quicker see what's going on, it's desirable for debuild not to loose that information.
