Works fine here. nm-applet is correctly started during log in and I get the dialogs when establishing a VPN connection. There might be a race condition somewhere when gnome-shell and nm-applet are started during session startup. Could you try the patch mentioned in the lp bug, i.e. http://git.gnome.org/browse/network-manager-applet/commit/?id=0c997a95d5b82ea6733e001478db1e2490b49575 -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
