While this is going to be fixed in xfonts-tipa, I still think there is a bug in xfonts-utils, too: # apt-get install debsums xfonts-encodings xfonts-utils # update-fonts-dir --x11r7-layout encodings # debsums -s xfonts-encodings debsums: missing file /usr/share/fonts/X11/encodings/encodings.dir (from xfonts-encodings package) I'm therefore cloning this bug for xfonts-utils.
