On my recent system /etc/init.d/bootlogs is responsible for creating the /etc/motd from the template (motd.tail). -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0.5 APT prefers stable APT policy: (990, 'stable'), (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.4-trunk-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash manpages depends on no packages. manpages recommends no packages.
