Package: dpkg Version: 1.15.8.12 Severity: normal Tags: patch When using the --background and --make-pidfile options. The parent process may exit before the child daemon process creates the pidfile and write the pid to the pidfile. This may lead to failure of --stop or --start or status, not finding a pidfile or finding an empty pidfile.
This is especially a problem with pacemaker, who checks the status command almost immedately after start returns and then finds the started program to not be started. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpkg/+bug/1036899 for a patch. -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0.5 APT prefers stable APT policy: (700, 'stable'), (650, 'testing'), (600, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages dpkg depends on: ii coreutils 8.5-1 GNU core utilities ii libbz2-1.0 1.0.5-6+squeeze1 high-quality block-sorting file co ii libc6 2.11.3-3 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libselinux1 2.0.96-1 SELinux runtime shared libraries ii xz-utils 5.0.0-2 XZ-format compression utilities ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3 compression library - runtime dpkg recommends no packages.
