I'm aware of this problem. I did a series of test builds on a MIPS machine which were pretty frustrating: There was not a single success in about 10 combinations I tried: compiling with gcc 3.3 or 4.0, building 7.4 or 8.0, building with -O0 or -O2, building with or without the new locking code, building with or without Debian patches, building with or without --disable-spinlocks. From that I almost get the impression that this has never worked at all... I talked with upstream about this, maybe somebody finds a solution.
