I ran into this issue upon upgrading my aptitude from 0.6.3-3.2+squeeze1 to 0.6.9.1-1. It would consistently give the InRelease gpgv warning and fail to verify the package lists. This persisted even when I cleared /var/lib/apt/lists. When I downgraded back to 0.6.3-3.2+squeeze1 and cleared /var/lib/apt/lists, everything worked again.
