That argument (--offroot actually) is meant to change the command name in
the ps(1) output (actually in /proc/$PID/cmdline) only.  It does not do
anything by itself, it does not change behavour of mdadm/mdmon.

The only reason for that change is to let upstart/systemd to know this
is a "special" process.  It looks like this /run/sendsigs.omit.d/ is
about the same thing actually.

At any rate we'll keep this argument in mind when mdmon will actually
be included into initramfs.
