I really have no idea.  It's the first time I see that error.
Anyway, the same thing happens on amd64, so this might be a 64
bit specific bug in dvipng.  I have to wonder why it didn't fail
on alpha in that case however.

Anyway, the only other pacakge having a build dependency on it
seems to be darcs, which seems to have build without problems
using the same version.
