SATA drives do wake up when reading temperature using hddtemp. The issue is not related to: a. kernel (both 2.6.32 and 3.2.0bpo) b. hddtemp version (both 0.3-beta15-46 and 0.3-beta15-52) c. hard drive make and model (both Hitachi and Western Digital) make the drive to wake up when reading the temperature.
