I concur with the suggestion in bug #695282 that this should be the Debian default, and perhaps upstream could be encouraged to look at what would be required to make it the upstream default? (At least MikTeX also supports -file-line-error, so parsing the name of the LaTeX interpreter and turning on -file-line-error if it's TeX Live or MikTeX would be a good start.) -- http://rrt.sc3d.org
