Thanks. The real problem is that the dependency chain is really different for shared linking and static linking. The proper solution would be to split the headers and the static libraries: the headers then should only depend on other header packages they publicly #include, while the static libraries would really depend on all other static library packages. But this would create a huge number of small, header-only packages so I don't think it will happen.
