Package: desktop-file-utils
Severity: wishlist

As my email to maintainers remains unanswered since 2013-01-03 I hereby
declare my intention to (co-)maintain "desktop-file-utils".

On 2013-01-31 Ondřej Surý <ond...@debian.org> (uploader of last NMU) replied
to me in private email:

"I don't want to maintain this package anymore (I just did the NMU), so
feel free to take it and find a willing sponsor."

I took liberty to update the package and to create new repository
where I imported previous work and committed my improvements:

    http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/desktop-file-utils.git

As I already reported in

        http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=690279#5

the latest version of desktop-file-utils 0.21 introduces updates to desktop
file specification that affects desktop-file-validate in a way when version
0.21 revert what was considering correct by 0.20. The update to 0.21 is
therefore important to validation of .desktop files.

Current desktop-file-utils version 0.20 (which is "testing" and "unstable")
misvalidates "Categories" field in .desktop files which may lead to incorrect
decisions.

Due to potentially serious consequences of misvalidation I prepared source
package

        https://mentors.debian.net/package/desktop-file-utils

for upload to "unstable". I believe upstream changes in 0.21 may be
considered for unblock.
